Description:
The year is 2010. More than a century of ecological damage, industrial and technological expansion, and unchecked population growth has left the Earth on the brink of devastation. As the world’s governments turn inward, one man dares to envision a bolder, brighter future. That man, Reid Malenfant, has a very different solution to the problems plaguing the planet: the exploration and colonization of space. Now Malenfant gambles the very existence of time on a single desperate throw of the dice. Battling national sabotage and international outcry, as apocalyptic riots sweep the globe, he builds a spacecraft and launches it into deep space. The odds are a trillion to one against him. Or are they?
Publisher's opinion:
“A STAGGERING NOVEL! If you ever thought you understood time, you’ll be quickly disillusioned when you read Manifold: Time.” –SIR ARTHUR C. CLARKE
“A JOY TO READ–AN EXUBERANT AND INVOLVING EXPLORATION OF TIME.” –GREG BEAR
“Reading Manifold: Time is like sending your mind to the gym for a brisk workout. If you don’t feel both exhausted and exhilarated when you’re done, you haven’t been working hard enough.” –The New York Times Book Review
“REMARKABLE . . . INTRIGUING . . . FAST-PACED.” –The Washington Post
“DAZZLING . . . PROFOUNDLY REWARDING . . . The scope of the book is awesome. . . . [Baxter] expertly captures the giddy rush of future shock.” –Vector
“If ideas were radioactive particles, Manifold: Time would be a block of plutonium. The story takes off at near-lightspeed . . . Baxter treats readers to a gallery of cosmic wonders, including a haunting look at a future so unimaginably distant that beings of that era see our own time as part of the hot, bright aftermath of the Big Bang.” –Science Fiction Weekly
“Recommended . . . Discoveries and adventures abound . . . Most science fiction writers wish to make their readers feel the thrill, the sense of wonder, that so marked SF’s youth that the genre still claims it as a sort of trademark, even though it is scarcely to be found today. Baxter succeeds as very few do.” –Analog
“Baxter sets a crackling pace. . . . Visionary [and] extravagantly imagined, Time places Baxter firmly in the tradition of Arthur C. Clarke and Isaac Asimov.” –The London Times

Reviews:
It jumps from person to person in a race to explore space. At times, it gets very technical and drags most of the time.
Baxter explores the behaviour of our universe in time on cosmic timescales. What he describes is based on real serious scientific theories (although unproven ones). The plot is very good too. This is a very interesting read.
