Description:
Alone and frightened, sixteen-year-old Leslie Cahill learns that running away has not solved her problems, it's only added to them. Eastern Washington and Oregon's wilderness and wide-open ranch country are the settings for this coming-of-age contemporary western. Based on Leslie's determination to resist her rancher father's wishes that she attend an exclusive girls boarding school, "Rosemount" is action-packed with modern ranch scenes, wilderness adventures and family dynamics.
Publisher's opinion:
....Rosemount is a superbly written tale of one young woman's trip from childhood to maturity, set in the exquisite--and exquisitely described--farm and ranch country of the Pacific Northwest. Teens who feel no one listens to them will likely identify easily with Leslie, while adults can also learn from not only her plight but that of her father and brother. This is a book that should be on every school's recommended-reading list and every teen's bookshelf. Reviewed by Elizabeth K. Burton, Blue Iris Journal

Reviews:
Sixteen-year-old Leslie Cahill considers her life just about perfect. Her widowed father and older brother are loving and supportive. She excels in her academic studies, her piano teacher encourages her to pursue her musical talents, she has her own pony, her best friend can be trusted with her most private secrets, even the housekeeper is more friend than employee. Leslie is quite secure in her sheltered surroundings and can’t imagine life being any different.
Then change rolled into her life like a summer storm, destroying her confidence and weakening the bond between her and her father. And, as is typical of most storms, the altercations strikes one behind another, taking a bigger toll with each blow. First her father announces he is sending her away to school this fall. Sending her away from home, friends, even her beloved horse. It is unthinkable and she tells him so. Her pleas turn to confusion when her father refuses to relent in his decision.
Why does her father want to be rid of her? They’ve always been so close, she can’t understand his unexpected action. That is until he makes another announcement she’s never considered. Her father plans to marry, and the woman has a thirteen-year-old daughter. Well, for Leslie, that settles it. Her father wants her out of his way. He is starting a new family and obviously, at least it seems to Leslie, he doesn’t want her around. For the first time in her life Leslie doesn’t confront her father with her suspicions. But, when her latest barrage of pleas fail to sway his plans for the boarding school, Leslie decides it’s time to chart her own destiny.
If you’ve forgotten the bewilderment of being a teen, Mary E. Trimble’s ROSEMOUNT will remind you. She makes you feel Leslie Cahill’s pain and agony. ROSEMOUNT is a delightful read and I highly recommend it. It is a book I plan to read with our four grandchildren.
