Description:
Leslie Cahill, seventeen, falls in love with an "older" man, twenty-eight year old Sloan Stroh. She’s flattered by the attention of this neighboring cowboy and is swept along by her strong emotions. Her father and brother strongly object to the relationship not only because of the considerable age difference, but because they do not trust Sloan’s intentions. Leslie learns Sloan’s dark secret, which dates back many years to her mother’s death. McClellan’s Bluff takes place in Washington’s ranch country.
Publisher's opinion:
You can see more from McClellan’s Bluff than Leslie Cahill ever imagined. Mary E. Trimble’s novel for young adults continues the story of the Cahill family: John, his son Wade and daughter Leslie. Both John, a widower, and Wade, eager for a family of his own, manage to take enough time away from their Circle C ranch to find romance. Leslie, on the other hand, loses interest in her high school friend, Jordan, when Sloan Stroh breezes into town and gives her a look she can’t get out of her mind.
Imagine Leslie, all ready to help at the round up and her dad says she can’t go, after all. Imagine a younger step-sister-to-be with an attitude who can’t wait to move in. Imagine Wade, a bossy big brother who likes to butt in, especially where Sloan is concerned. And imagine Leslie’s memories of her mother, killed in an auto accident which has never been resolved. McClellan’s Bluff, which picks up where Rosemount leaves off, is a fine novel in its own right: colorful setting; challenging characters; fast moving plot. Mary E. Trimble has written another story too good to pass up. Gloria MacKay, Radio Commentator and Author of The Bubbles Go Up

Reviews:
Too good to be true…
Young Leslie Cahill is in over her head – again! In this sequel to Rosemount Leslie finds herself falling head over heels in love for the first time with Sloan Slade. A man 11 years her senior.
Leslie is still in high school. Sloan is part-time cowboy, part-time drifter. Both her dad and brother have warned her away from his advances. But, what’s a girl to do when Sloan levels those cool blue eyes her direction and looks her over like she is the most special woman in the whole world?
Mary E. Trimble portrays the confusion of being a young woman awakening to love with true to life clarity.
I loved this book … it’s a wonderful story about growing up!
McClellan's Bluff by Mary E. Trimble
(Sequel to Rosemount /Young Adult)
Coming of age is never easy for young girls, especially Leslie Cahill who lost her mother while she was very young. Add to that mix a father who is about to re-marry, and the impending addition of a less-than-likable step-sister, and you have the perfect milieu for rebellion.
Leslie is in grade eleven and loves her life, surrounded by relatives and friends who care deeply for her, on the "Circle C" ranch in Washington state. Even so, the strong values and work ethic instilled in her fall like dominoes when she meets Sloan Stroh, a handsome cowboy working on a neighboring ranch.
Sloan is several years older than Leslie and despite cautions by Leslie's father and brother, the wild streak the cowboy reveals to her makes him all the more exciting. His shameless flirting and possessive behavior draw her like a magnet, especially when her father refuses to let her date the man she has built a fantasy around.
Leslie finally rebels, with consequences that spell near disaster.
McClellan's Bluff is a wonderful read not only for teens, but for parents who struggle to understand the turmoil a teen is going through. Although a sequel to Rosemount, the book stands alone and is the recipient of the EPIC award for Young Adult Novel. Highly recommended.
