Luke and Madeleine are two young people who have decided to follow the conventional wisdom of working towards financial stability, and experiencing life before giving in to their nesting instinct. Luke is busy working for a junior partnership in a public relations firm, while Madeleine is starting out to establish herself as a journalist when love knocks them off their feet.
In this atmosphere of trying to resist an inconvenient romance, they have to deal with the serious question of anorexia and bulimia that touches both their lives.
This is the third of Ms Barnes romance novels that I have read, and she continues to entertain and educate me. I look forward to her next book.
Madeleine Andrews, a young journalist with issues of her own, is determined to help others by giving them information to make their lives better, information not always available to the public. She is also a volunteer for an organization that helps displaced homemakers. As part of her duty there she is asked to help put together a fundraiser to generate money and encourage volunteers. Enter Luke McFarland, a handsome public relations expert, assigned to help, pro bono, with the fundraiser. Instant mutual attraction takes hold of both of them. But Madeleine and Luke butt heads at every turn. Numerous people including her own problems show Madeleine’s that life is not as “perfect” as she believes but actually filled with imperfections. Eventually it is real life that brings Luke and Madeleine together.
“A Perfect Body” has multiple meanings in this story of Alexanne Andrews, a talented writer who is determined to understand the body image problems of those she cares about.
With the help of irresistible Luke McFarland, Alexanne challenges her life-long beliefs about health, among other things, opening her mind and allowing the new love in her life to blossom and grow.
Cassandra Barnes does a masterful job of weaving valuable information about eating disorders into a romance that, besides wreaking havoc for the heroine who has the perfect career planned out for herself, is a thoughtful and satisfying read.
Cassandra Barnes has done it again! A PERFECT BODY is a great read, filled with characters who come alive as the pages turn and with issues that affect many of us today. This author shows insight into a major problem in our society, especially with teens, but she weaves the love interest in so that it becomes an uplifting story that is a pleasure to read. -- Pinkie Paranya, Award-winning novelist.
