Reviews:

A poor reference for lookups while reading books. - (charles poole on 5 January 2007)
Time and again I have been disappointed to find that a word or term that appeared in an ebook could not be found by highlighting and choosing look up, using this dictionary. It has proved to be almost useless to me in that respect, which considering its price, makes me feel I wasted my money.

The wrong words - (Eric on 30 April 2004)
I read one book, looked up about a dozen words and found about four definitions. True, it is only $18 but with "140,000 words" I expected a bit more. The dictionary in my Rocket did much better.

Not for the english literate - (Gary on 19 August 2003)
This might be helpful for someone learing English as a second language but everytime I use it when trying to read an ebook with rare english words it does not contain the word. To date there has never been an instance when I attempted to use the neat feature in an ebook or selecting a word for the definition that it contained it. Yes it contains common words that anyone with a 10th grade education already knows but that is useless. I wasted my money on this one. Now I will try the merriam webster and see how it goes.

The best.... - (Richard Asimov on 4 April 2003)
....It makes every book you read an english lesson.

5 stars - (bitch on 4 December 2002)
good

Good dictionary but refinement needed - (David on 27 October 2002)
I checked the paper version of the dictionary and found it a very good one - entries have more information than the Websters and word origins are very nice too. However the electronic version needs some more work: (1) Some words in the paper version are missing: "shenanigan", "ramification" are examples. I am sure there are more words missing. A little more proofreading and/or QC/QA is needed. (2) Some American spellings cannot be found: "lackluster" and "hodgepodge" are examples. In the dictonary they are "lacklustre" and "hotchpotch". Although they are noted under their British entries the American spellings don not show up in searches. (3) In the IDIOMS section, the start of the idiom and the beginning of the definition for the idiom is not clearly separated by punctuation or space (at least not on my color Clie with Mobitype turned on). It would be nice if the idiom itself is in a separate color AND separated by a colon ":". Overall I'd say it is a very good dictionary and would like to see it improved. I'd buy it again.

Overall a very good dictionary - (David Donne on 19 October 2002)
The dictionary does offer clear definitions of words and phrases and the contents are quite up-to-date. However I found that some simple words are missing. "Ramification" is one of them. Another problem I found is that when you try to make a correction on the search string line the letters become hightlighted (even when you try to delete the letters and make a correction). After that you cannot remove the hightlight and cannot make any changes to the string. I could exit out of the dictionary but it takes a few more clicks to get back in.

Solid dictionary, compact definitiions - (neil on 3 October 2002)
The dictionary has excellent word coverage. I didnt know if 138,000 was alot of words or not. Well I "tested" some obscure words and in all cases this dictionary had the definitions. Very pleased about that. On the downside though the definitions are very short and there's not often elaboration on where the word came from. Overall though a great dictionary.

Oxford English Dictionary - (Ng Chhon Wah on 18 August 2002)
It is an excellent tool to help us during reading any ebooks/enews etc. Thnak You for publishing such a great book. Regards

Now Mobipocket is a robust reader! - (Michelle on 5 August 2002)
I used to be torn between MS Reader and Mobipocket. MS Reader had the dictionary function, which I'm so fond of I sometimes reach to tap on words in printed text! But with this dictionary installed, there's no reason to go back. Mobipocket is clearly the winner, and this reader is far more robust and configurable than any other reader out there. The only thing that keeps me from giving an 'excellent' rating is the price; MS gives their dictionary away for free. If you've always wanted to be able to look up words while reading, this is a great buy!

Pocket Oxford English Dictionary - (Anson Pierce on 2 July 2002)
Great dictionary! Offers much more than webster at a good price! Word histories are quite nice, and word usage is very up to date, including many american/UK slang.

Excellent - (Martin Görner on 21 May 2002)
An excellent dictionary! Very complete, with idioms and etymologies in a size that fits my handheld. But the best part is the integration into the Mobipocket Reader. You are really just one click away from the definition of any word in any book you are reading. eBooks are great!
