Description:

Who am I? Well, I am the imaginary friend. You know--the one you conjure up to talk with when you're consumed with loneliness, greed or visions of imminent doom. And that's how this manuscript came into being.

I have listened to thousands of stories and it would be a shame if they just stayed with me, never to be heard again. Their subjects vary greatly, but I have chosen to share only the ones I found to be particularly curious. Take the story told to me by a man within days of his execution, for instance. I will relay it to you verbatim, just as he told me his tale...

Being a creature of the twilight, I know a few things about life and death. You mortals don't disappear when your body stops functioning. In many ways, your "real life" begins after your body dies. In fact, as I was relaxing in front of a fireplace once--don't be surprised, imaginary friends like to be comfortable just like anyone else--a man walked into my sitting room. It took me a few moments to realize that he needed my services, but as always, I listened intently.

I like people with manners. They seem to be in short supply lately. I can't tell you how often I must endure indignities from those who think that imaginary friends can be talked to any which way they choose. But I have a tale that was told by a woman who was nothing but polite. This lady offered tea and crumpets and made some small talk even, before telling me her tale. As I listened, the tears ran down my face, and those were not imaginary either...

As you can imagine, the life of the imaginary friend is never dull, for people have a great need for companionship. Once in while, however, even I have time to relax and enjoy myself between stories. But just as I opened a bottle of cold beer--yes, imaginary friends are no teetotalers--it happened again. I heard a man calling for my attention. He looked like a nice harmless chap, scholarly type, you know. As soon as he became comfortable with me, his tale just poured out of him. And what a tale it was...

Have you ever been troubled by nightmares? Were you relieved when you woke up? No matter. Are you sure you can tell the difference between the nightmare and the waking state? Think it through before giving me your answer, for you'll find an account about just this subject from a most interesting gentleman indeed who really needed to talk to me...

Sometimes only an imaginary friend can truly listen to your deepest troubles and most distressing woes. Wouldn't you agree?

Read on, dear reader...read on.

The Further Accounts of the Imaginary Friend - (Liam Paggett on 2 June 2009)
Is now available... http://www.mobipocket.com/en/eBooks/eBookDetails.asp?BookID=179520 It is even better than the first...

Great stuff! - (Jason Whittle on 1 January 2009)
This book never failed to keep my interest- the stories are very short- maybe too short- but still an incredible first book. I am keen to see what P.S. Gifford releases next.

Brilliant! - (Daniel on 30 July 2007)
An engaging and varied horror collection. Good balance of chills and humour.

A Gripping read! - (William McDonald on 11 May 2007)
This book has many, many twists and turns.

A very entertaining read! - (William McDonald on 14 April 2007)
This book was suggested to me by a good friend of mine. I was unsure at first, but I know my friend has excellent taste, so I kept on reading- by the sixth story I was still unsure- Then WOW. Just when I thought I knew where I was going to be lead - the author expertly pulled the rug out from under me. A definite five stars.

Wonderful! - (C.M. Criswell on 4 April 2007)
P.S. Gifford is a rising star. His works are fun to read and give that lovely little chilling feeling that makes you look over your shoulder now and again. Wonderful to have in a ny horror fan's collection as there is something for every taste.

A wonderful horror collection- - (Henrick Glutonlumps on 3 April 2007)
http://www.anotherealm.com/prededitors/votenovelhorror06.htm First encountered this book through it's high ranking in the above list. Glad I found it. Some stories are better than others- and the better ones are in the middle.

This collection is everything I expected it to be- - (Henrick Glutonlumps on 2 April 2007)
If you are looking for gross-out, mindless violence horror-this book is not for you. If you are looking for enertaining tales with a health dollop of suspense- and occasionaly humour- I suggest that you give this book a chance.

Goosebumps a plenty- five stars. - (Ian Brady on 2 April 2007)
This collection- which I am half way through-is varied and entertaining without having to fall back on bad language and sex. After the first few stories you feel that you have a sense for Gifford's writing-then it shifts.

dont bother - (bernie vaughan on 2 April 2007)
i got this from a friend for my birthday and am very disappointed. every story is the same--same opening same style same ending. and none of the storys are even a little bit scary just kind of cute and lame and nothing much happens in any of them at least nothing you havent seen a thousand times before on old tv shows like alfred hitchcock presents or twilight zone only even those tried to make the storys fresh. these were like listening to your senile grampa going blahblahblah forever. after forcing myself through five storys i got so bored i fell asleep so i think the people who are saying they like these storys so much either must not have read more than one or two of these storys or must be friends or family or insomniacs. i give this a big double thumbs down. anyone who wants to read horror stories should go look around online--theres stuff just like this and even better all over the place for free just do a search for horror. sorry to the writer but thats my opinion. bernie v.

A must read for horror fans- - (William McDonald on 1 April 2007)
For anyone who enjoys an old-fashioned macabre tale- this book is for you. Mr. Gifford shows that you do not need to use bad language, sex and gratutious violence in a story for a spine-tingling read.

Great Read - (Kevin_H on 31 March 2007)
PS Gifford's writings take an old school approach to the Horror story. Much like the old Tales From the Crypt and Twilight Zone episodes, most of these stories are prefaced by a narrator. These easily set up a creepy mood. Gifford has a great knack for use of description, and capturing the personality of his characters. The plots are tightly constructed and clever. Gifford's writings exemplify the strong narrative of the style of Brtisih writers (where he hails from) and the detail/macabre that is typical of American writers (his adopted homeland). Both of which give PS Gifford a unique style. The stories here are quick and concentrated shots of Horror which make for a FUN and ENTERTAINING read. A great way to pass away the idle moments of the day.

The Truth - (jazzbaby on 31 March 2007)
The cover is very eye-catching. So eye-catching it caught not only my eye but my cash. Inside the cover, though; a collection of mostly "mild-mannered nobody is really a serial killer having the last laugh" vignettes, each delivered in the exact same chatty, prissy, word-souffle (think: Truman Capote on loop). Each story short on backstory, character development, necessary details, subtlety, suspense, uniqueness, purpose; each long on adjectives, artificial phrasing, step-by-step descriptions and stuffy, repetitious verbocity. Each ending in premature slapped-on wrap-ups comprised of bland statements of the yawningly obvious. In other words, Lesson for Today: you really can't tell a book by its cover. Don't waste your money like I did. Save it and put it toward a collection of Lovecraft or Poe: true masters of the style and subjects of which these smug little pseudos are but tepid rip-offs. -jazzbaby-

Outstanding and Bone-Tingling - (Lawrence Dagstine on 30 March 2007)
P.S. Gifford never ceases to amaze me with his short stories, hence why I felt he would be most suitable for the position of Horror Columnist for my magazine. His experience in the horror genre with describing charming and endearing protagonists (and unforgettable) in scary and nail-biting situations is clearly professional (and profesionally executed), always well-worded, and atmospheric as well. His prose in The Curious Accounts is hauntingly beautiful to the eye, and if there is one thing this book has, it's something Mr. Gifford does best: the surprise ending. Definitely a title to put on your wish list.

Wonderful book ! - (Faye Sizemore on 29 March 2007)
P.S. Gifford is a writer who will escort you, unknowingly, to an unprecieved destination leaving you in awe of his devices used to transport you there ...This is not a book to be missed!

Excellent tales - (Faye Sizemore on 29 March 2007)
P.S. Gifford will take you on several journeys and your destination is always a haunting surprise. He is never, never disappointing..A must read!

The Next Gen in Horror - (Stephen Wilkins on 27 March 2007)
I have had the pleasure of reading Mr Gifford's work for a few years now and it constantly amazes me. Always wonderfully written in a style that will grip you from the off, his imagination is let loose to weave tales that will leave you desperate for more. PS Gifford is the next generation in horror writers. I can't recommend hsi work enough.

Nail Biting Tale Weaving - (Dianna Doles Petry on 27 March 2007)
I have been following PS Gifford's tales for some time and his use of imagination as well as his ability to paint an image in my mind with his words never ceases to amaze me. He weaves a tale of intrigue, mystery and down right fear. I recommend this book to everyone who enjoys a good mind bending thriller. I hope it goes to Audio books soon!

Man, What an Author ... - (Stevie K. Farnaby on 26 March 2007)
Wow - This reading material is as imaginate as it is inventive. I cannot recommend this amazing eBook enough. Way to go Mr. Gifford !

Highly praised - (gerardine on 26 March 2007)
I can’t believe the imagination of PS Gifford. His words pull you through his stories, entertaining, great plot, suspenseful. I applauded him and yell for, ‘More.’

Another Excellent PSGifford Work - (Georgepat on 26 March 2007)
I have been reading PS Gifford's tales for some time and am constantly amazed at how he is able to weave a tale that takes you down one path, and just when you think you have it figured out, slams you in the opposite direction. I highly recommend his work...you won't be dissapointed!

Brilliant read. - (John Cleven on 26 March 2007)
PS Gifford's book will grab your attention from the very first page, and deftly steer you through twists and corners. An amazing read-
