My novel consists of fifteen chapters which are Word documents. I saved them as XML and imported them into creator v4.2 build 35 publisher edition.

When I try to build, I get an error saying that there is no BODY tag in the documents and creator quits.

Thanks.

Hello,

XML files cannot be used directly in the Creator, one has to use XSL sheets along with the XML to transform it in XHTML.
Please try to simply import the Word document in the Creator (drag and drop the Word document on the Creator window), I believe this is what you want to do.

Best regards,

Fabien

Explains the immediate problem. Next problem is that the book consists of 15 Word documents which are large (or 15 pdfs) but doesn't look like multiple word or pdf docs can be imported into Creator. Is there any way to get them in without combining them all into one doc?

Thanks

Hello,

well the process requires a bit of manual work but should be easy enough:
- import each one of the 15 chapters, this will create 15 publications
- create a new blank publication and save it (this will create the folder of the new publication)
- move all of the files of the 15 other publications in the "new" publication folder (the 15 HTML files that were created, and possible the directory that goes with each HTML that contains images)
- add the 15 HTML files in your publication (use drag and drop or the "Add item" link)

Best regards,

Fabien

Tested what you suggested with just two files and it seems to be working.

However, if I create a TOC with the tag "title" which is the correct tag for the chapter heads and either try to preview the TOC or do a build, mobicreator "unexpectedly ends" - windows message.

Is this a known problem. don't see it searching the forum.

Thanks

Hello,

unfortunately, you cannot use the TITLE tag in the TOC wizard. This is because the TITLE tag is always invisible, it does not appear in the flow of the document, so you cannot create a link to it. However, I believe that the title of the chapter also appears in the BODY of the document, so you should use the tag that is used to display the title in the body of the document.

Best regards,

Fabien
